LOCKOUT? WE CAN HELP

By: Admin Sep 22, 2022

You've managed to lock yourself out of your home. Now what?

A lockout can be a major inconvenience, especially if you have dogs or children inside who require your assistance, or if dinner is cooking.

Fortunately, we have a few choices for getting you back inside.

Steps To Take If You Get Locked Out Of Your House

Step 1: Ask For Help

Please contact your partner, roommate, or anybody else with whom you share a residence to see if they can come home and let you in. They may find it inconvenient, but you will spend less time stranded outside your home.

Try contacting your landlord if you rent your home. They will almost always have a duplicate of your house key and may be close enough to unlock it.

Stop by the manager's office if you live in an apartment complex and request entry to your unit. Have confirmation of your identity on hand, as well as proof that you live in the complex. However, be aware that many apartment complexes charge lockout fees if the personnel must assist you in regaining access.

Step 2: Call A Locksmith

Although expert locksmiths are not the cheapest option, they are a proven way to reclaim your property.

Lockout services might cost anywhere from ₱1,000 to ₱2,500 depending on the situation, but in an emergency or terrible weather, a residential locksmith is the best alternative. Locksmiths are generally on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to aid with home or automobile lockouts, whether you've lost your keys or the key you have won't turn.

Step 3: Look For Unlocked Windows Or Doors

Unlocked windows and doors invite intruders in, but they can also help you get out of a jam if you're trapped out. It doesn't hurt to examine all of your home's entrances if you're stuck.

Remove the screen, lift the window, and shimmy through when entering through a window. Keep an eye out for anything below, such as chairs, end tables, and televisions, as you'll likely be off-balance when you fall.

Step 4: Improvised Tools

Lockpicking appears to be simple in movies, but it is considerably more difficult in real life. Paper clips and bobby pins can be used as DIY locksmith equipment.

If you have two bobby pins or two paper clips, it will work best, but if you only have one, you can break it in half to make two tools.

  1. Form an "L" with one of the metal pieces. This gadget functions as a tension rod to keep the lock in place.

  2. Straighten the other end of the wire and bend a little "W" into it. This piece will assist you in removing the pins from the lock.

  3. Maintain tension in the lock by holding the L-shaped portion in place.

  4. Feel for pins inside the lock using the W-shaped piece.

  5. To unlock the door, use the W-shaped piece to push the pins up.

A firm plastic card is required for a normal spring bolt.

  1. Pick a card that you don't mind losing. It's preferable to squander a redeemed gift card rather than your debit or credit card.

  2. Place the card between the frame and the door, just above the latch.
Push and wriggle the card around while holding it perpendicular to the door.

  3. Bend the card away from the doorknob as you press to try to pull the latch back and away from the doorjamb. While bending the card, press your weight against the door.

  4. Slide the card between the doorframe and the latch. You can push your way back into your residence by inserting the card between the lock and the doorframe.

Step 5: Take Off The Doorknob

You should be able to obtain admission by removing the doorknob as long as the deadbolt isn't locked.

Most doorknobs have hidden connections or mounting screws, but a pin-sized hole or slot can be found below or to the side of the doorknob if you look attentively.

  1. Insert your newly created tool into the hole using a thin piece of metal (such as a straightened bobby pin or a paper clip) and apply pressure.

  2. You should encounter opposition. Keep one hand pushing the metal tool as far into the hold as possible while the other pulls and turns the doorknob.

  3. Continue exerting pressure while simultaneously tugging and twisting the doorknob until it is dislodged.

  4. All that's left is to peel the ornamental plate off to reveal the lockset. Pull back on the locking mechanism with a screwdriver (or your bobby pin) and the door should unlock.

Once the frustrating experience is over and you’re safe inside, take steps to prepare for the next time you inevitably find yourself on the wrong side of a locked door.
